Jazz Brunches Spring 2017
The West Oxford Community Association is delighted to announce that Nick Gill is back by popular demand to take us on a magical musical tour of the Jazz Age through a series of Brunches at the Community Centre this spring:
1) Saturday 25th February
Ragtime Revisited with Willie “The Lion” Smith. The Lion performs the great rags of Scott Joplin, sings the wonderfully corny songs of the ragtime age and shows how ragtime evolved into the hot jazz of the 1920s.
2) Saturday 11th March
“Once in a Blue Moon – The great songs of Rogers and Hart.” The Oxford Classic Jazz trio with guest singer (tba) perform the songs of the Jazz Age’s most romantic songwriting team who created such wonderful melodies as “My Heart Stood Still”, “With a Song in my Heart” and of course “Blue Moon”.
3) Saturday 1st April“From Cakewalks to Jive” – Live dancers will demonstrate jazz dance through the ages. Suitable for adults and children of all ages. Some of you may wish to take instruction from our professional jazz dance coaches from the Oxford Lindy Hop Society!
Doors open at 10.30am for a complimentary warm drink and a croissant to ease you gently into the wonderful world of Jazz. The performance will begin at 11am which is expected to last around 90 mins or so, with an interval, depending on the audience enthusiasm!
Further refreshments and pre-order lunches will be available from the wonderful Tumbling Bay Café
£6.50 for a standard ticket, £5.00 for concessions and WOCA Members, free entry for kids
